Pathways to Achieve This Qualification

Study Pathway

The study pathway is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills and knowledge through structured training and assessment. This pathway provides comprehensive learning across all units of competency.

Delivery Mode
Online with trainer support. Self-paced study materials with scheduled trainer consultations.

Indicative Duration
6–12 months

Assessment Types
Written tasks, case studies, workplace-based projects, portfolios of evidence, and practical demonstrations as required by the training product.

Learner Support
Dedicated trainer and assessor support throughout your enrolment. Access to learning resources, study materials, and training support services. Contact your trainer via email, phone, or scheduled consultation.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Personalised to your needs, available on all OPEC College qualifications

RPL is an assessment process that evaluates your existing skills, knowledge and experience against the requirements of the training product. RPL is suitable for individuals who have developed relevant competencies through workplace experience, prior training, or other learning.

Evidence Requirements

You will be required to provide documented evidence of your skills and experience. This may include workplace documents, references from employers or supervisors, examples of your work, records of prior training, and any other evidence relevant to the units of competency.

Assessment Process

A qualified assessor evaluates your evidence against each unit of competency, applying the principles of assessment (fairness, flexibility, validity, reliability) and rules of evidence (validity, sufficiency, authenticity, currency).

Indicative Duration

between 1-6 months (subject to evidence quality and completeness)

Our RPL Process

  1. Pre-enrolment suitability review — Tell us about your background and career goals. We review your experience and advise you on the most suitable qualification and pathway.
  2. Evidence gathering and submission — We guide you to collect and submit evidence of your skills and experience, including workplace documents, references, examples of your work, and records of prior training.
  3. Competency assessment — A qualified assessor evaluates your evidence against each unit of competency. Your assessor may contact you to discuss your evidence or request additional documentation.
  4. Assessment outcome — You are advised of the outcome for each unit. This may be: competent (full RPL granted), further evidence required, or not yet competent (gap training or study pathway recommended).
  5. Certification — Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, your nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment is issued.

RPL outcomes are not guaranteed. All applicants are assessed individually by qualified assessors against the units of competency. Where gaps in competency are identified, a blended or study pathway will be recommended.

Blended RPL + Study

The blended pathway combines RPL assessment with structured gap training. This pathway is suited to learners who hold relevant experience in some areas but require additional training to achieve competency across all units.

How It Works
Your assessor identifies the units where you can demonstrate existing competency through RPL. For any remaining units where gaps are identified, you undertake structured training and assessment through the study pathway.

Indicative Duration
3–6 months (depending on the proportion of units assessed via RPL versus study)

Support
You receive the same trainer and assessor support as the study pathway for any gap training units.

Not Sure Which Pathway Is Right for You?
Complete a pathway enquiry and our team will review your experience, skills and career goals to recommend the most suitable option. This review includes an assessment of your language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy to ensure the training product is appropriate for your circumstances.
